A young John Landis had written an unused story treatment for the movie where James Bond was supposed to rescue the Pope, who is the target of a criminal group. A scene was scripted where Bond flees into a church, and hides behind a figure of Christ on the cross (even taking on the same pose) as to not be noticed by the criminals, who then proceed to drag several clergymen out of the church and threaten them with guns. Producer Barbara Broccoli rejected this draft for being to outlandish.
