Jyn uses the same Quadnoculars (a type of spyglass) as Poe Dameron in Star Wars - Il risveglio della Forza (2015) rather than the earlier Binoculars used in the original trilogy. This means the Quadnocular design was being used much earlier in the time line than originally thought.
