Out of all eight regions that Ash has visited, Kanto (the first time), Alola, Unova, Kalos and Hoenn are the only ones in which Ash started out with just Pikachu. He did attempt to go to Sinnoh with only Pikachu but, at the time, his recently caught Aipom followed him.
