Shares a universe with other shows created by Dick Wolf: Law & Order: Unità Speciale (1999), Chicago Fire (2012), Chicago P.D. (2014) and Chicago Justice (2017). This means that sometimes characters of Chicago Med appear on his other shows and its story continues there or vice versa. One of main characters of this show is Dr. Will Halstead, who was introduced before the backdoor pilot (in Chicago P.D.: Say Her Real Name (2015), as the brother of Chicago P.D.'s Jay Halstead.
