Apparently the author of this comment doesn't count hand drawn animated films which were produced in this aspect ratio like Lady and the Tramp (1955), Sleeping Beauty (1959), The Black Cauldron (1985), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), and Brother Bear (2003). A mimuch more daring feat.
