Since the movie Vampire Academy (2014) wasn't a success , they wanted to do the 2nd movie anyway, but it was cancelled. Then in May 2021 it was announced that they wanted to make a tv-series of the books. There have been succes with tv series instead of a movie before. Mortal Instruments (2013) had low ratings, then 2016 they made Shadowhunters (2016) instead, it lasted for 3 seasons until it was cancelled by (Freeform) Netflix. (Netflix aired it internationally; Disneys freeform produced and aired it in the USA)
