Vince Gilligan revealed in an interview that his original plan was to shape the show in season one and eventually step out to let Peter Gould (who originally created the character of Saul Goodman) run the series full-time. He stated that making the season was so creatively fulfilling, though, that he changed his mind and decided to continue running it on an everyday basis for the initial seasons.
