During the production of this movie, Lucas also filmed a scene for L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980). Ian McDiarmid, who first played Emperor Palpatine in Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983), was filmed in prosthetic make-up for use in the character's first appearance as a hologram in L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980), replacing the unknown woman, and the voice of Clive Revill.
