The idea to include a "silent partner" of John Hammond was also inspired by the Jurassic Park novel. Although the character of Benjamin Lockwood was not featured in the novel, the book depicts the early years leading up to the cloning of dinosaurs, which made Colin Trevorrow realize that there would have been many people involved in such a project, convincing him that someone like Lockwood would be amongst those people.
