In the second draft of Michael France's screenplay, an accident at Gamma Base leads to Bruce, his colleague Samuel Sterns, and another named Curtis getting exposed to gamma radiation, with Bruce saving Talbot in the process. The three slowly show signs of mutation. Bruce goes on the run with Betty after becoming the Hulk. Meanwhile, the transforming Sterns experiments on ex-Air Force ops team member Carl Creel, turning him into the Absorbing Man. Continuing his experimentations, Sterns develops a plan to wipe out over half of Earth's population to save humanity from sending itself into oblivion and help the world start over, with himself leading the survivors.
