As they were transitioning from Chevy Chase to Bill Murray, Chase (per Lorne Michaels' instructions) did train Murray for a short period before he left. Later, when Chase came back for a guest appearance in 1978, the two came to blows. Chase admits in a Howard Stern interview that much of this was John Belushi's fault who was jealous of Chase's stardom, and also resentful that Bill Murray became the replacement, not his brother Jim; and who because of all this stoked the fires of resentment in Murray by trashing Chase to Murray behind Chase's back. And then the result of this was Murray confronting Chase when he returned, leading to a fist fight between them.
