Later seasons featured less interaction between Castle and Beckett, often explained by plot devices such as Castle becoming a PI or Beckett pretending that they were broken up. Reportedly, this was due to the fact that the real life relationship between Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic had deteriorated so much that the two found it difficult to work together. Towards the end of the series, the two actors only ever spoke to each other while in character and reciting their lines, and otherwise refused to even be in the same room.
