Admiral Kirk and Captain Spock used a combination of three methods well known to expert hackers in order to escape Khan after he cripples the Enterprise during their first engagement; Enumeration (gathering how much information Khan knew about Genesis and what his plans were), Social Engineering (tricking Khan into giving them just enough time to effect their plan to escape and deceiving him into thinking they were giving him what he wanted) and remote code execution using a backdoor vulnerability (knowing of the Reliant's prefix code, and using Enterprise's own terminals to remotely order Reliant's shields to drop with that code)
