Wilderness experts, hiking specialists, and adventure enthusiasts/backwoods naturalists, and especially emergency responding personnel would completely disagree with all the characters' decision to leave the vicinity of the plane wreckage, which stood out starkly and very well against the bleak, wide open white snowy expanse, and head distantly over to the stand of trees or forest, (and beyond), where it is very difficult to see survivors from the air. The far better, more intelligent survival choice, would have been to board up the fuselage tube like a room, and reinforce it with parts, to create a safe chamber in which to pass the nights; the survivors should only have left the wrecked fuselage area if food or flammable material had run out, but even then, rescuers will look and start at the last known location.
