Grant claims that the Giganotosaurus is the "biggest carnivore the world has ever seen." However, this statement is not factually correct. Most scientists agree that the Spinosaurus is the largest land predator, bigger than both the T-Rex and Giganotosaurus. According to paleontologists who studied a partial skeleton of a Spinosaurus, the dinosaur was roughly 60 feet long, with the sail on its back being about seven feet tall. This is much longer than both the T-Rex and the Giganotosaurus, which were both around 40 feet long. Additionally, its skull was far longer, measuring around six feet long, almost a foot longer compared with a T-Rex and Giganotosaurus skull. Despite the Spinosaurus' size, however, it was speculated that the creature largely fed on fish after observing its teeth and claws, which were more suitable for catching fish rather than snapping the neck of a T-Rex, as seen in Jurassic Park III. Jurassic Park III, Alan Grant and a small group fly to Isla Sorna, a secluded island where he runs into a Spinosaurus. Additionally, they encounter a T-Rex that fights the Spinosaurus but loses. With all this information in mind, Grant not once refers to the Spinosaurus as the largest carnivore to be seen, saving this remark for the Giganotosaurus about two decades later. A couple of explanations come to mind. First off, since the Spinosaurus was located on a secluded island, the world has never actually seen it live. This is not the case for the Giganotosaurus seen in Jurassic World Dominion, as the plot centers around dinosaurs and humans having to learn how to co-exist. Since the public has come face-to-face with a Giganotosaurus, this could explain why Grant made this statement. However, another possibility that comes to mind may clarify Grant's statement: genetic modification. Since Dr. Wu is responsible for the recreation of the dinosaurs at Jurassic Park, it's no surprise that he could recreate the Giganotosaurus. However, he was also behind the creation of an entirely new dinosaur species, the Indominus Rex, combining the DNA of several dinosaurs with other species. With this in mind, Dr. Wu may have further genetically modified the Giganotosaurus to be even bigger than the average Giganotosaurus. However, fans should be open to the possibility that the Giganotosaurus seen in the trailer may have been genetically modified by Dr. Wu to be even larger than its prehistoric counterpart, hence the statement made by Grant.
