Many of the musical numbers in the show are parodies of other popular songs: "Everybody Bleeds" parodies REM's "Everybody Hurts," "I Feel Like Sh*t (This Must Be Love)" parodies Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," "Life is a F-ed Up Mess" parodies the "Electric Slide" by Marcia Griffiths, and "Totally Gay" parodies many Queen songs, most notably "Somebody to Love."
