The "Big Bad Evil Guy" of Season 4 is referred to as Vecna. Vecna is a real Dungeons and Dragons monster, a former king and lich, often referred to as "The Whispered One", due to his obsession of keeping and acquiring secrets as a means to power. One of the most prominent D&D campaigns to feature Vecna is the first campaign of Critical Role (2015), and upcoming seasons of its animated adaptation, La leggenda di Vox Machina (2022)
