It is possible that Stanley Kubrick had repeated the takes of scenes over a hundred times because the feelings of mood in the characters would be represented as exhausted and irritable by the last cut, due to the tediousness of doing a scene countless times, and because the mood of the film is tragic and dark, so nobody would be shown to be happy.
