In an article promoting the film published in Fangoria 149 (published 1995), writers Steve Haberman and Rudy De Luca revealed that they had been working on a serious horror/science fiction script titled 'Not Human' and kept fighting the urge to include scenes of parody in it. To make sure this script remained completely serious, they decided to write a horror/comedy between drafts which became Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
