The exterior shot of Nick's bar is of The Griffin in Los Angeles on Los Feliz Blvd. In real life The Griffin became infamous after hosting a Proud Boys meeting and subsequent bar brawl in July 2018, just two months after New Girl's final episode aired. Its brand tainted by the then-owners' initial defense of the far-right group, the bar changed ownership and rebranded as the Moon Room in August 2019, but closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2020. As of July 2021, the property was expected to reopen as a bar/restaurant called the High-Low.
