Originally, Chloe Sullivan was supposed to have an "ethnic background" and Pete Ross was suppose to be Caucasian. Allison Mack was going to read for Lana Lang, but decided to try for Chloe, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were so impressed by her audition that they made the character of Chloe and Pete swap skin colors and cast Sam Jones III a few days before filming the pilot episode.
