Luke Perry is smiling less and less in the opening credits of each season leading up to his temporarily last appearance as Dylan McKay, excluding the impersonal "stock footage-styled" first season. He's smiling from ear to ear in the second and third seasons (same opening), cracking a closed-mouth smile in season four, giving a business-like look of approval in season five, and wearing a poker face in season six. This gradual change in his facial expression may very well have foreshadowed his decision to leave the series to pursue more mature roles.
