The outcome of the 1924 Democratic National Convention is not shown. Alfred E. Smith lost this contest to surprise newcomer John W. Davis, but Smith tried again and won it in 1928. Neither candidate won the general election: Davis lost to Calvin Coolidge with only 28.8% of the vote (split among two major parties and several special-interest independent candidates) and Smith lost in a landslide to Herbert Hoover, who in turn would lose the next election in a landslide to Franklin D. Roosevelt himself.
