This was the first Godzilla film where the monster's appearance was toned down to make him less frightening to younger viewers (despite being the film's ultimate villain). In the first & previous two films (Godzilla (1954) and Il re dei mostri (1955)), Godzilla had small pointed ears, four toes, and fangs. Here, he has no ears, has 3 toes instead of four, and his sharp teeth are all evenly sized. This look would be maintained in all films until Distruggete Kong! La Terra è in pericolo (1975).
