The nervous traveler Barney played by Sid Caesar tries to make small talk with several passengers. He comments to the woman next to him doing needlepoint that "Rosey Greer does that too". Ex football star Roosevelt Grier starred with Charlton Heston two years before in another airplane disaster film Il pirata dell'aria (1972). Greer took up knitting after his retirement from the NFL "in order to break down barriers between the sexes", but also to gain publicity and further his new career as a singer/actor/entertainer. His mention in the movie is proof his strategy worked.
