Michael Landon wrote a variation on the 'A Christmas Carol' story and thought William Shatner would be a perfect fit as the Scrooge like character. Shatner allegedly loved the idea and was keen to do it but was crushed when he found out the shooting schedule clashed with another project he was already committed to. Shatner reluctantly had to turn it down and the part was recast with Geoffrey Lewis instead.
