Laurence Fishburne was not approached about reprising his role from the original trilogy. Hugo Weaving, on the other hand, was, and for a time he was attached to appear in Resurrections. Conflicts with other projects eventually ruled him out. Both Fishburne and Weaving appear in Resurrections via archival footage from the original trilogy.
