In an instance of "Life imitating art", four years after the release of this film, which fictionalizes the Chicago mob wars, Al Capone's top gunman, "Machine Gun" Jack McGurn, was gunned down in a bowling alley just like Gaffney (Boris Karloff) does in this film. McGurn is alleged to have been been one of the masterminds of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre dramatized in this movie.
