Harold Faltermeyer, who composed the score for Beverly Hills Cop and the theme song called "Axel F" (which became a worldwide hit), referred to this song as the "Banana in the Exhaust Theme" because it was originally composed exclusively for the scene where Axel Foley gives a pair of Beverly Hills police officers problems by inserting bananas into their car's exhaust pipe in order to lose the tail of the police officers. But the theme was so loved for fitting perfectly with the context of the scene that it ended up becoming the main theme of the film.
