At the beginning of the film Colonel Douglas Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef) forces the train that he is riding to stop at Tucumcari, New Mexico, which was founded in 1901. Later in the film Colonel Mortimer is browsing a newspaper (The El Paso Tribune) with the visible publication date of June 15, 1872, nearly thirty years before Tucumcari was founded.
