Miguel Sapochnik signed an overall HBO deal shortly after he completed his directorial duties on season 8 of Il trono di spade (2011). Whether or not that included doing one of the Il trono di spade (2011) prequels is up for debate but Miguel Sapochnik is coming in as an episodic director & co-showrunner on House of the Dragon (2022) looks to have been kept secret or a deal was made in the weeks prior of the announcement of House of the Dragon (2022).
