In Robert Weisbrot's book, Hercules The Legendary Journeys, An Insider's Guide to the Continuing Adventures, published in 2004, it's revealed that the series only received an 8 episode order in season six instead of a full season due to Kevin Sorbo saying bad things about everyone to the press which alienated some important people.A quote from Rob Tapert in the book page 197: "I was surprised that Studios USA didn't finish out that season of Herc. But Kevin was very unhappy and he was also saying bad things to the press (about everyone). So he had alienated the sales people, the ones you shouldn't antagonize. He thought they weren't putting his picture up on billboards or marketing the show or that they were paying more attention to Xena. So at the time, I thought that Hercules was ending where it should. I mean, I would have taken fourteen more episodes, but I wouldn't have wanted to do two or three more years. Now standing here, I wish I had done two or three more years and was still in business with Kevin and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and those guys." When asked if he and Kevin could have stayed together for another two years, he says, no.The same book on page 167, also quotes an unnamed writer as saying the Kevin was wanted more money. However, Kevin denies that in the book.Kevin over the years, however, has spun a story that the studio wanted him for three more seasons, and he did not want to sign for three more seasons, therefore this is why they had an abbreviated final season.
