While secretly struggling with a terminal disease, Alfred feels the need to remind Bruce Wayne that he (Alfred) is mortal and will not be able to support him forever. In the comics, Alfred was killed in Detective Comics #328 (June 1964), while rescuing Batman and Robin from a lethal accident. He was resurrected in Detective Comics #356 (October 1966). Alfred was killed again in Batman Vol 3 #77 (October, 2019), murdered by Bane. Alfred has not been revived, though his corpse was briefly turned to a zombie by the Joker in a 2020 story-line.
