Hughes' "flying yacht", which was used in the scenes with Katharine Hepburn was a replica of a Sikorsky S-38. The S-38 was manufactured in 1929 with a total production run of only 101 planes, all of which were lost. There were a number of military variants as well. The plane used in the film was one of two reproductions that exist.
