The primary comic books used for inspiration were said to be The Infinity Gauntlet, The Thanos Imperative, and Infinity. The majority of the story is taken, however, from a graphic novel of Silver Surfer stories, in which Thanos sought the Infinity Gems after being given the Gauntlet from Death. Also, the only things the graphic novel by Jonathan Hickman that this story references are the Black Order making a prominent appearance as Thanos' top henchmen and a massive battle in Wakanda.
