In the Trial of a Time Lord season story 'Terror of the Vervoids', The 6th Doctor and Melanie Bush fought humanoid plant creatures called Vervoids created by scientists as slaves. A year earlier, a cartoon called Jayce il cavaliere dello spazio (1985) premiered for the first time on American television. In the cartoon, the cartoon's title protagonist Jayce led a small band of heroes called The Lightning League against The Monster Minds, evil mutant plant creatures who had been accidentally created in a experiment by Jayce's father Audric (a scientist).
