Ken Johnson had never been a regular reader or fan of comic books, and as a result had little knowledge or interest in the genre. Johnson was assigned to develop and produce the series largely as a result of his work on The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman, which heavily featured Comic Book/Super Heroic elements.
