There is a fan-theory that Lex Luthor wanted Batman to steal the data he has amassed on the 'Metahumans' (Barry, Diana, Arthur, and Victor) so that, after Batman killed Superman, he would go after the other 'metahumans' and eliminate any other potential threats to Darkseid's impending attack via Steppenwolf.
