The Beast of the film was drawn like a chimera, a monstrous creature with parts from multiple animals. The animators reportedly gave him the head structure and horns of an American bison; the arms and body of a bear; the teeth, and mane of a lion; the tusks of a wild boar; and the lower body of a wolf. Glen Keane, supervising animator for the Beast, studied zoo animals to get the body structure right.
