K, a Replicant working as a Blade Runner, is a nod to fans debating whether Deckard himself is a Replicant. In both movies, it's neither denied nor confirmed if Deckard is a Replicant, although Blade Runner (1982) director Sir Ridley Scott has stated that he considers Deckerd to be a Replicant (as Scott's Final Cut of the movie hints heavily that Deckerd's dreams are artificial). Director Denis Villeneuve, on the other hand, chose to leave the matter ambiguous; in his movie, Niander Wallace does reveal to Deckerd that Elden Tyrell created Rachael with the intention of them falling in love and procreating, which would seem to be easier if Deckard was a Replicant (so they would know his preferences), but the movie gives no definite closure on that matter.
