Michael Bay considered making Pain & Gain - Muscoli e denaro (2013) between Transformers (2007) and this film, but he "didn't want someone else to take his baby" and so stuck around to make four more Transformers films. He was finally able to make the film in 2013, between Transformers 3 (2011) and Transformers 4 - L'era dell'estinzione (2014).
