An article published in the January 1959 edition of show-business trade paper 'Variety' reported that star Ralph Bellamy', at age 55, had initially believed that he was too old to play Franklin D. Roosevelt at the ages of 39 to 42 required for the movie, and publicly announced that Marlon Brando would likely be cast in the role of FDR in this picture.
