The toy ventriloquist dummies are based on the "Jerry Mahoney" dummy from The Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney Show (1950). This toy, as depicted in the film, was very creepy and it was typically played with only a couple of times before being discarded, which might be one reason why there are four of them in this film. While short-lived, the Paul Winchell Show was from the same period as Puppet Playhouse (1947), which was the inspiration for Woody's Round-Up.
