In this film, Batgirl/Barbara Wilson is introduced as Alfred Pennyworth's only living relative. In the comics, Alfred has a daughter. Julia Remarque/Julia Pennyworth was introduced in Detective Comics #501 (April, 1981), created by the writer Gerry Conway and the artist Don Newton. Julia is the result of a sexual relationship between Alfred and French heroine Mademoiselle Marie. Julia works as an investigative reporter, with Vicki Vale depicted as her original boss.
