Sully's original working name shifted in early drafts from Hob and Johnson before finally landing on Sully. Hob was intended to work for a TV show and writer Dan Gerson decided to rename the character to Sully as an ode to Ed Sullivan, a prominent television personality in NY where Gerson grew up. The name Sully stuck but the character's role change to be the premier scare.
