The first twelve seasons were produced in 4:3 standard definition, with the show switching to 16:9 high definition in the thirteenth season. South Park Studios later remastered the first twelve seasons in high definition and reanimated every scene to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio. As the pilot, South Park: Cartman Gets an Anal Probe (1997), was produced on film using cutout animation it was rescanned in high definition but remains in its original 4:3 aspect ratio.
