The pistol Kersey recovers at the scene of the van rape is either a Colt 1903 Hammerless in 32 ACP or a Colt 1908 Hammerless in 380 ACP. Both are John Browning designs that predate the Beretta 84, the main gun Kersey carries by 70 years. The 1903 was used extensively by the OSS in Europe and by the partisan forces they supported. A notable incident involved members of the Czech underground who assassinated Nazi Governor Reinhardt Heydrich in Operation Anthropoid and were later involved in a long gun battle against German infantry in a church.
