Russ Columbo, seen here portraying a popular "radio singer" (and the singer's look-alike) was a popular radio singer in real life. Shortly after appearing in this short, Columbo's career (and his life) was cut short when he was the victim in a suspicious "gun cleaning accident" which lodged a bullet in his brain. He died within hours of being wounded, and Hollywood legend claims that his doting mother was so overcome by the thought of him even being injured that his siblings kept news of Columbo's death from her until her own demise nearly a decade later.
