During his audition, Robert Picardo suggested to Paul Verhoeven that Johnnycab should ask Quaid "Are you from out of town?" (Poking fun at Arnold's Austrian accent). Verhoeven angrily told Picardo, "No, no, no...you don't do that with Arnold!" Picardo's logic was that the crew was shooting in Mexico City (while he was recording the robot's lines in Los Angeles)...so he'd be able to slightly insult him and get away with it.
