The 2nd Ranger Battalion lands at Pointe du Hoc only to find the guns they've been sent to destroy had been removed, leaving one Ranger to say, "You mean, we came up all this way for nothing?" and their scene ends without a proper conclusion. That was a deliberate choice by the filmmakers, to show the futility of war. However, the real Rangers who landed eventually found the missing artillery pieces a few hours later and disabled them, thereby accomplishing their primary objective that day.
